A glucose/electrolyte powder for the treatment of dehydration
due to diarrhoea, vomiting and other illnesses, vigorous exercise
or heat exhaustion.
The mainstay for antidiarrhoeal treatment is to maintain
hydration or to re-hydrate the patient and to prevent subsequent
dehydration. The dehydration which occurs is due to a net loss of
sodium, chloride, potassium, water and bicarbonate. Rehydration
formulations (such as Glucolyte), when used correctly, avoid this
potential for electrolyte disturbance.
Because Gluco-Lyte replaces lost body salts as well as fluid it
will quench the thirst better and quicker than plain water or other
non-electrolyte drinks. Useful as a refreshing drink for sports
people, athletes, manual workers, housewives, active children...
